Interdistrict Competitions

Hills has an opportunity to enter teams in an Inter District Competition played fortnightly in 2017 in two age groups:

January, 2002 to August, 2004  (Shipley Cup)
and
September, 2004 to August, 2007 (Balfour Cup)

Hills is mindful that:
(a) teams cannot be selected LL teams as that would be a breach of LL Rules. Entering two teams would mean ‘equalizing the strength’ of both teams and place onerous restrictions on the club competition (see more below). We have always been reluctant to have Hills teams play each other.
(b) there is a risk of over use of players, particular Pitchers and Catchers. In this regard we have already taken a decision that players involved in the LL World Series at Junior and LL level will not be eligible for Hills teams until January, 2018.
These players need a ‘break’, having been in training and playing constantly for almost a year.

Similarly players involved in the Midweek LL Charter will also be ineligible given their workload up until December.

Also we are concerned about the adverse effect it will have on the Hills Competition, having to ‘rest’ at least six Pitchers from Club Baseball each fortnight.

This decision may well mean that we do not have enough players to enter that Competition (Balfour Cup), however we are prepared to try.

With the span in ages, it may be possible to enter two teams, perhaps in different Divisions, in Shipley Cup.

The Division 1 competition will be played on 24th September, 8th & 22nd October, 5th &19th November, 3rd and 17th December

The Division 2 competition will be played 15th & 29th October, 12th November and 10th December

Trials are tentatively scheduled for Sunday 3rd September  @ Ashley Brown 3 (entrance from Pineleigh Road) commencing @ 1pm sharp.

Players are required to nominate their intention to participate in this trial by 31st August. Information required includes DOB, Club you are registered with and preferred two playing positions. Nominations are to be emailed to johnyardhere@yahoo.com.au

The teams will be expected to train and a strict ‘no train no play’ Policy will apply.

These are not LL representative teams. There will be separate representative LL trials held early in 2018. Players will not be disadvantaged if they choose not to participate in the Inter District competition.

Applications are invited for Coaches of these teams. Coaches will require Level 2 Coaching Accreditation and current Working with Children Check
